These quilt blocks are from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle quilt which resides at the Bennington Museum in Vermont. The signature corner indicates that the quilt was made "In War Time 1863", and has 5602 pieces. Many of the 169 blocks are intricately pieced with tiny
scraps and you can imagine Ms Stickle working on the quilt as she worried about friends and loved ones who were away fighting in the Civil War. The quilt is bordered by
52 pieced triangle blocks and 4 pieced corners.
The blocks are digitized using lace motif fill stitches, which keeps the number of stitches down and the stitching time greatly reduced from fill stitches. The blocks look great when stitched with variegated thread, which gives them a look of fabric as it creates a design with the various colors in the thread. When stitched in solid colors they create a very striking, graphic look. No matter what threads you decide to use, you will have a true masterpiece when you're done.
Even if you don't plan to do all of the blocks, just a few of them can make a wonderful quilt. Use only one block, or combine two, three, or a few of them to create some great secondary designs. The blocks stitch out at 4.5 inches, and can only be stitched in a 5x5 or larger hoop.
The designs can be purchase by the row or there is a special price for all the designs.
